Twenty-three years ago, I looked into the eyes of the love of my life and pledged to care for her in sickness and in health. It was a powerful moment that cemented our love to one another.
Yet, across America our gay and lesbian friends still don’t have the same freedom to marry. That’s not right and it’s past time for it to change.
The love between my friends Paul & Jeff, two of the plaintiffs in our case, is just as real as the love I share with my wife, Michele. It’s time the government recognizes it.
Kris & Sandy, the other two plaintiffs of our case, have raised a family just as Michele and I have. It’s time their family has the same protections as mine.
For years we have worked toward our goal of full federal marriage equality. Now we are days away from being before the U.S. Supreme Court, and we must all do what we can to make history.
I want every American to be able to look into the eyes of the person they love, man or woman, be able to pledge that love, and be brought together by the special, unique bond of marriage.
