Rep. Barney Frank and Dustin Lance Black to Attend Reading of “8” in Utah

Academy-award winning screenwriter and AFER board member Dustin Lance Black will return to Utah with U.S. Congressman Barney Frank (D-MA) for a one-night reading of “8” at the Plan B Theater in Salt Lake City on August 4. The day also marks the second anniversary of the historic Federal District Court decision that ruled Prop. 8 unconstitutional.

Black, who penned “8” based on the actual court transcripts of the Perry trial in Federal District Court, and Frank, the first member of Congress to come out voluntarily and the first to wed his longtime partner while still in office, will both participate in a talk-back after the show.

As Black points out in a recent blog post, “8” is essential because:

“Outreach and education are two of the most critical components of any civil rights fight.”

Last month, Black, who was raised Mormon,  was the grand marshal of the Utah LGBT Pride Festival where an unprecedented 300 current and former members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints  marched in support of equality for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender Americans.
